As 2018 comes to a close and I reflect on the past year, it has been an incredible experience getting to meet so many business owners throughout the state and touring their facilities. The amount of investment, technology and level of talent has been nothing short of amazing. It is no surprise that PwC consistently rates Michigan as a top 10 state for aerospace manufacturing attractiveness. This is a direct reflection of the vision and dedication companies have made in Michigan’s aerospace industry for the past 100 years.
Our events program launched in 2018 and quickly became an incredibly popular platform. In total we organized and supported 9 different industry events from Jackson to Houghton and various other regions of the state. They drew an attendance of more than 1,100 people eager to learn about the unprecedented growth taking place in the aerospace industry and to build new relationships. These relationships ultimately set the stage for new supply agreements and parts in production that did not previously exist.
As we head into 2019, our plan is to build on the events program by not only continuing to provide supply chain opportunities for companies but to also work together with our members on talent development and talent attraction initiatives. This will not be a quick fix and it requires a long-term strategic approach with sustainable solutions. Fortunately, we have a number of members from the education community to work alongside us during this journey.
On behalf of the AIAM board of directors, I cannot begin to thank our members and sponsors enough for their continued support. I wish you and your families a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
